Responsible Mineral Development

Like all Hunter Dickinson associated companies, Heatherdale is committed to the principles of Responsible Mineral Development. This means that local people and communities must benefit from the exploration and development activities that Heatherdale undertakes, and that environmental impacts of development must be avoided and minimized.

To achieve its Responsible Mineral Development goal, Heatherdale is guided by two basic principles:

  • the Niblack Project must be advanced in a manner that respects local socio-economic priorities;

  • the Niblack Project must incorporate the highest quality of environmental management.
These principles are fully reflected in the work Heatherdale has undertaken to date. In addition to environmental initiatives, the Niblack Project has established a local hire and procurement strategy and developed an early-stage commercial partnership with a Prince of Wales Island-based Alaska Native Corporation.

In 2008, Niblack was awarded the Alaska Commissioners Award for its social and environmental performance.
